Widewater, Alberta
On March 6, 2006, Blackdog entered in agreement to participate in a high impact exploration well in Widewater area near Slave Lake, Alberta which is about 200 km north of Edmonton, Alberta.
Under the terms of the farm-out agreement, Blackdog will pay 25% of all costs to completion or abandonment to earn a 15% interest in the 2560 acres (4 sections) of land the farm-out agreement covers.
This is a multi zone well with both oil and gas targets. The expected cost to drill to target depth is about $1,100,000. The well will be drilled to a total depth of 2100 metres to the Precambrian formation. The main target is the Gilwood Sandstone of Devonian age at a depth of approximately 1980 metres and the secondary target is the Keg River at 2100 metres.
The well was expected to be drilled in the winter of 2006 but due to poor rig availability and a short winter drilling season the well was delayed until the fall of 2006. A second attempt to drill the well during September, 2006 was also cancelled due to poor road conditions caused by excessive rain. The original permit then expired on November 15, 2006. In December, 2006, the Ministry of Energy granted a one year extension on the drilling permit.
Further extensive information on this property can be found in the Blackdog press release dated April 18, 2006.
